Katarniagha t Wildlife Sanctuary
The Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary establish is a protected area in Uttar Pradesh, India and covers area of 400.6 Km2 in the Terai of the Bahraich district of upper Gangastic area. In 1987, it was brought under the purview of the Project Tiger and together with the Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary and the Dudhwa National Park it froms the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve.
The Katarniaghat Forest provides strategic connectivity between of Dudhwa and Kishanpur in India. It is home to a number of animals and birds species including gharial, tiger, lepard, gangestic dolphins, swamp deer, hispid hare, Bengal florican. Many other species availbile in this forest.
The Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary’s forest is largely untouched from civilization and quit. It is the perfect getaway for the those seeking a brief vacation amidst the calls of birds, thick forests and – if they are lucky and patient enouught – a sighting of wildlife.
The Ghagara river which flow in the sanctuary area is declared as a sanctuary of Mugger and Gharial. It is also home to rare turtles, freshwater fish and a host of aquatic life. The river bank creating coves that attract visitors on motorboats.
Katarnighat is dolphins conservation area, it is among the few places in India where fresh water dolphins, also know as Gangestic dolphin are found in their nature habitat.
